Bellevue Historical Society Annual Meeting

Location:  Bellevue Elks Club located at 214 W. Main Street, Bellevue

Time: 7pm - 10pm

The Bellevue Historical Society will hold its Annual Meeting on Thursday, March 21st, 7 p.m. at the Bellevue Elks Club, 214 West Main St.

The brief business meeting will provide reports on the Society’s activities, financial status, an update on the Tremont House Restoration Project; followed by election of Directors.

Bellevue native Eliz
abeth Burr Marquard will present a program on her books which relate the 100-year arc of her maternal ancestors’ lives, the William Seibel family of rural Monroeville.   “I Come From a Place Called Home, (1882-1929)” begins at Riverside Cemetery, east of Monroeville as the last surviving sister, 80-year-old Minola, makes a final visit to her childhood home.  She relates the unbreakable bond of the Seibel siblings; forged in the hardships delivered by fate and weather, and the overriding shadow in their lives – their mother’s mental illness.

Mrs. Marquard’s companion book, “I Come from a Place Called Home  (1930--1985)” continues the story as the family grapples with difficult decisions about their mother’s destiny and the fate of the family farm. The Seibels’ determination and sisterly support carry them through the decades of the Great Depression and World War II, helps them adapt to modern conveniences, and bear witness to the social upheaval of the 1960’s and the trauma of Vietnam.

Mrs. Marquard used old family letters, diaries, farm journals, manuscripts, and oral history to write the books, which are part biography and part historical fiction. The two books include hundreds of family photographs.  Mrs. Marquard grew up in Lyme Township and graduated from Bellevue High School and The Ohio State University.  She now resides in Chardon, Ohio.

Her books will be available for purchase and for signing.
